Program staff receive First Aid/CPR certification and a week of onsite training before the campers arrive. The counsellors also participate in continuous training throughout the season.
The camper groups are formed taking into account their age and the ratios suggested by the Quebec Camping Association. There are two counsellors assigned to each cabin group of 7 children. The management team reserves the right to pair different age groups if the registration is low in one of the age categories.
Counselors and specialists can count on the presence of a behaviour support worker to intervene with children presenting a behavioural or adaptation problem, to develop tools to motivate positive behaviour and to consult with a guardian if needed.
Camper safety is at the heart of Camp Weredale’s values.
All facilities and all equipment are regularly inspected by professionals as well as by local authorities. In addition to having the proper training, all of our employees have first aid certification and valid certification of their competencies.
Counsellors and specialists have the skills to appropriately intervene. An overnight supervisor is on duty from 23:00 to 6:00 to ensure the safety of all, 24/7. For safety reasons, all of our campers, whether they know how to swim or not, must complete a swimming test during the first swimming activity of their stay. The test is supervised by qualified lifeguards who will evaluate each camper's level and, if necessary, provide them with a personal flotation device (PFD) for all aquatic activities.
Water testing is done bi-weekly throughout the summer and in accordance with government norms and standards to ensure the quality of both drinking and lake water. An experienced maintenance team ensures the cleanliness and repair of our facilities.
There is always a First Aid attendant on site who also ensures the administration of prescribed medications.
Healthy and balanced menus are approved by a registered dietician and are planned on a 12-day rotation. On request, vegetarian and vegan menus are available. Food is prepared to ensure that individual camper food allergies are closely tracked and monitored by our chef and her team.
